Gopher wrestlers finish regular season with double shutout

Bill Bentson

In my years of reporting I may have written that a team recorded a shutout in a dual meet, but I’m 99.999 percent sure, that I’ve never reported that one of the team’s I write for ever recorded two shutouts.

Well, such was the case this past Friday night: Chatfield beat La Crescent-Hokah 84-0 and then beat St. Charles 82-0.

“Friday night couldn't have gone much better,” said head coach Travis Bartels. “I felt there were going to be three tough matches for our varsity and we won all of them. So good work, Kail Schott, Cody Guenther and Tate Karver. We believe with the right attitude, strategy, and enthusiasm, our team can compete with anyone in our section. We will continue to strive to be ‘overachievers’ in every part of wrestling, especially attitude.”

In the win over St. Charles, Chatfield received eight forfeit wins and 10 forfeit wins against La Crescent-Hokah.
