The Chatfield boys’ basketball team lost its season opener to Plainview-Elgin-Millville 78-64 in its only game last week.

Tuesday, Dec. 11, the team will travel to Adams for a Three Rivers Conference - West game with Southland, Friday the Gophers will host Dover-Eyota, and on Saturday they will play Zumbrota-Mazeppa in the HVL/TRC Showdown.  Tipoff for Saturday’s game with the Cougars is scheduled for 11:45 a.m.  The Gophers are off then until Friday, Dec. 21, when they will travel to La Crescent-Hokah.

In the loss to the Bulldogs the team was led in scoring by sophomore Reid Johnson with 19 points.  Also in double-figures were senior Josef Fahrenholtz with 13 and junior Landon Bance with a dozen.  Johnson and Fahrenholtz each had one three-pointer.  All of Bance’s points came from beyond the arc as he connected for four three-pointers. Rounding out the scoring for the Gophers were Seth Allen, six points, which were all on three-pointers, Ben Brogan and Chance Backer with four, and Kobe Schott and Jack Tuohy with two points.

Plainview-Elgin-Millville won the first half 46-24 and Chatfield won the second half 40-32.  Unfortunately for the Gophers, PEM’s winning half was more than Chatfield’s winning half.

Both teams shot well from the free throw line.  PEM hit 21 of 29 (72.4 percent) and Chatfield was 11 for 17 (64.7 percent).

Forty-eight of the Bulldogs points came from two players, Blake Herber (25) and Griffin Doughty (23).  Conner Schumacher added 13 for PEM.
