James Alois “Jim” Mueller, 86, of St. Charles, died on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield.

Jim was born on March 1, 1932, on the family farm in Elba Township, to Leo and Lucy (Wieser) Mueller. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as an M.P. in Wurzburg, Germany. After his time in the military, Jim moved back home to farm. On Nov. 23, 1960, Jim was united in marriage with Marie Reining at St. Pius Catholic Church in Rochester.

Jim enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved farming on his family’s Century Farm. He enjoyed hiking, hunting, family sledding parties, Fourth of July celebrations, whittling diamond willow canes and dancing to polka music. He was a very faithful member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Elba. Jim was a fire warden, member of the Elba Township Board, Catholic Aid Association, and took care of and dug graves at the St. Aloysius Cemetery in Elba for 34 years.

Jim is survived by his wife, Marie; six children, Glenn (Jill) Mueller, Dennis Mueller, Jean (Bob) Tienter, James Mueller, Ted (Cass) Mueller and Michael (Trisha) Mueller; 10 grandchildren, Jessica, Peter, Samantha, Jonathan, Mary, James, Jack, Jacob, Hannah and Leo; and five siblings, George Mueller, Ted Mueller, Louis Mueller, Edith Holm and Clara Burt.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings, Cletus, Leora, Sister Bona, Arthur “Nick” and Marlene.
