John Schild

John Schild, 57, of Rochester, died on Friday, Nov. 16, 2018, after a long hard-fought battle with COPD and congestive heart failure at the home of Rhonda Schild and good friend James Gehlen.

He was born on Jan. 10, 1961, in Harmony to Lester and Pauline (Winans) Schild of Chatfield.

He grew up went to school and graduated in Chatfield.

He was employed by Seversons Dairy and by Casey Bartel. He also had several janitorial jobs at Econo Foods, TGIF’s, PCS (OMC), Preston United Methodist Church and Done-Rite cleaning until he just couldn’t do it anymore, retiring early due to health complications.

He married Joy Stahl on Feb. 14, 1985, and they later divorced.

He then met Rhonda Calhoun and they were married on April 1, 2007, in the home where he grew up.

He lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed working, fishing, being out in the country, cutting wood, small game hunting and spending time with family and grandkids. He loved telling jokes and had a unique laugh. He had a warm, loving and caring, tender heart.

He is survived by wife, Rhonda; two brothers, Russell (Cindy) Schild and Micheal (Susan) Schild, both of Chatfield; two sisters, Anna Pickard of Ostrander and Alice Motely (Dennis) of Virginia; three daughters, Melissa (Jeff) Maynard of Virginia, Amanda Schild of St. Charles and Katie Schild of Rochester; a son, Andy Schild (Ashley) of Rochester; three step-children, Wendy (Bill) Reynolds of Rochester, Trevor Collins (Melissa) of Spring Grove and Brandi (Dustin) Hoffman of Rochester; 15 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, nephew, four uncles, three aunts, two brothers-in-law, his ex-wife and son.

A celebration of life for him was held on Saturday, Nov. 24, at Bear Creek Christian Church in Rochester.
