Kevin Lynn Hegna, 58, of Stewartville, died on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019, from complications of a lengthy illness with cancer, at his home with his family by his side.

He was born on July 26, 1960, in Rochester to Dennis and Marilyn (Poole) Hegna.

He grew up in Rochester, attended school there, graduating from Mayo High School in 1978.

He began his long career as a flooring installer at Jerrys Carpets in Rochester.

He was married to Rhonda J. Nelson on Aug. 17, 1985, on the Juilus C. Wilkie Paddleboat in Winona.

Following their marriage the couple lived in Rochester and had recently moved to Stewartville. He was self-employed for a number of years, installing carpet and other floor coverings and worked for a number of years at Hiller Carpets in Rochester.

He was interested in drawing and took art classes from renowned wildlife artist, Charles Pierson. He painted and air brushed on everything from clothing to canvas for friends and family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family on the Mississippi River and motorcycling. He loved time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Rhonda; two daughters Amanda Hegna (Corey Milene) of St. Charles and Ariel Hegna (Andrew Thalacker) of Stewartville; one son, Kevin Weatherly (Kery Erickson-Weatherly) of Fountain; grandchildren, Sarena, Evan, Robert, Jordan, and Ruth and one brother, Scott Hegna of Phoenix.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Kimberly Hegna.

In keeping with his wishes, no services are planned at this time. A celebration of his life will take place in the spring, as will burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester.
