Kingsland golfers drop first SEC meet

Kingsland lost its first golf meet of the season on Monday, May 6, when Lanesboro downed the Knights by two strokes.

Lanesboro beat Kingsland at home 189-187. Kingsland’s Wyatt Pruter was medalist in the meet with a 38. Teammates Nathan Lund had a 46, Gavin Merkel shot 51, Nick Wernimont had 54, Gregg Hubka scored 56 and Dax Wocholtz shot 59

The Lanesboro girls shot 230 to Kingsland’s incomplete score due to not enough girls to qualify as a team. Kylie Welch was Kingsland’s only golfer and she shot a 53.

Tuesday, the Knights played a triangular with Lewiston-Altura/Rushford-Peterson and Houston at Rushford. LARP scored 180, Kingsland 208 and Houston was incomplete. Zach Anderson of LARP was medalist with a 43.

For Kingsland, Pruter shot 47, followed by Wernimont with 50, Hubka with 54, Lund with 57, Merkel with 63 and Isaac Simon with 65.

The girls’ scores were LARP 213, Houston 271 and Kingsland incomplete. Medalist was Alexa Agin of LARP with 50. Madeline Moore shot 53 and Welch 63 for Kingsland.

On Friday, the Knights downed Southland 208-240 at Southland. Southland’s Max Schmitz was medalist with a 39.

For Kingsland, Wernimont shot 47, Pruter 53, Lund and Hubka 54, Merkel 58 and Wocholtz 58. Girls were incomplete, but Moore shot 53 and Welch 68.
