After four postponements and nearly three weeks of inside practice, the GMLOK softball team finally got on the field for games last week.  The gals opened the season last Thursday with a 3-2 win over Caledonia/Spring Grove, but then lost a pair of games to St. Charles, 6-3 (eight innings) and 7-3.

This week the team has/had games scheduled with Mabel-Canton (Monday), Chatfield (Tuesday, away), Lewiston-Altura (Thursday, away) and Fillmore Central/Lanesboro (Friday, home).  The Bulldogs will also start the next week at Dover-Eyota, on Tuesday, May 8.

Masie Voigt scored the winning run on a passed ball in the top of the third inning for the Lady Bulldogs.  She also scored a run in the first inning.  Voigt had two of the four hits for GMLOK.

Also coming up with hits were Lindsey Welch and Sydney Eickhoff.  Welch was very active on the bases, scoring a run and stealing two bases.  Voigt also had a stolen base.

Kori Kruegel got the win for the Bulldogs, allowing just four hits and striking out four.

With the score tied at 3-3, Jocelyn Voeltz hit a two-out double off the top of the fence that just missed being a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning.  That was one of two hits for Voeltz in the game.  She also added a run-batted-in.

Liz Jacobsen had two hits in the game, along with a run scored and a run-batted-in.  Scoring the other two runs for GMLOK were Voigt and Kruegel.   Allie Lubahn, Allie Sloan and Rylie Groom also had hits in the game.  Groom also had a run-batted-in. St. Charles scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to secure the win.

Ninth grader Lily Hughes was “in the circle” for GMLOK.  She struck out nine and allowed just five hits in her eight innings of work.

In the nightcap, Sloan had three hits in three times at bat and two RBI and Lubahn was two for three with a run scored, but that wasn’t enough as the Lady Bulldogs lost the second game against the Saints, too.  Also coming up with hits were Voigt, Kruegel and Eickhoff.  This was the Bulldog’s best hitting game of the short season.  Scoring the runs were Voigt, Lubahn and Kruegel.

Kruegel pitched all six innings of the game, giving up nine hits and striking out two.
