Lady Gophers beat Caledonia for conference win


The Lady Gophers lost 57-30 to a “good Blooming Prairie team” last week, said coach Brian Baum, but picked up a Three Rivers Conference win over Caledonia, 46-39. The gals are now 5-6, overall, and 2-4 in the TRC. The team is 2-0 against teams in the East division. In the loss to the Lady Awesome Blossoms, Chatfield was leading 9-4 “before the wheels fell off,” said coach Baum. “They are a good team.” The Lady Gophers trailed 30-18 at the halftime break. Zayda Priebe and Jaidan Zimmerman led the scoring against Blooming Prairie with seven points each. Priebe was three for eight from the field and Zimmerman was one for two from three-point range and two for two at the free throw line. Priebe also pulled down six rebounds and Zimmerman had four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Peyton Berg led the team with 10 rebounds. She also had six points, on three for six shooting from the field. Silja Erickson had six points, too, along with three rebounds, two steals and two assists. Erickson was two for five on her shooting from the field and two for four at the charity line. Mollie Henry took four shots, hit two, and finished the game with four points. She also dished out two assists. Tessa McMahon had two rebounds, two assists and one steal. Alyssa Baum had one rebound, one steal and one assist. Kara Goetzinger had one rebound. The Chatfield JV team beat Blooming Prairie. Chatfield had two players in double-figures in the win over the Lady Warriors: Zimmerman (14) and Berg (10). Zimmerman was four for nine from the field and six for 11 at the free throw line. Berg was three for four from the field, including two for two from three-point range, and two for four at the free throw line. Berg led the team with six rebounds and also added a steal and a pair of assists. Zimmerman had four rebounds, four steals and two assists. McMahon had a very good floor game, as she came up with five rebounds, eight steals and seven assists. Her steal and assist totals tied season-highs in each category. She also contributed six points. Also scoring in the game were Silja Erickson (5), Henry (5) and Priebe (6). Priebe got her six points on three for six shooting. Erickson and Priebe each had three rebounds. Paige Erickson pulled down three boards and Henry had four rebounds. The JV/B team got another win over Caledonia and is now 6-2 for the season. This past Monday the gals had a game with Lake City (8-4) and Thursday they will travel to Lewiston-Altura. Monday, Jan. 13, the Gophers will host Cannon Falls (2-6), and Tuesday, Jan. 14, they will host Fillmore Central.
