The Chatfield softball team lost a non-conference game to number three ranked Rochester Lourdes 8-2, then rebounded for an 18-4 win over Wabasha-Kellogg last week. The split leaves the Lady Gophers at 2-0 in the Three Rivers Conference and 3-1, overall.

In the loss to the Eagles, the Gophers gave up four runs in the first inning, one more in the second inning and three runs in the fifth inning.

Lexi Chase suffered her first loss of the season as she allowed eight hits, eight runs and three walks while striking out seven Lourdes batters. Six of the runs allowed were earned. Chase pitched the first five innings of the game. Carlie Berge pitched the final two innings of the game. She gave up two hits, no runs, struck out two and walked two.

Chatfield got both of its runs in the bottom of the first inning. Belle Berg led of the first with a walk, followed by a single from Chase. Teagan Allen got a two-out double that scored both Berg and Chase.

Chatfield had other opportunities to score later in the game, but couldn’t come up with a timely hit. The gals left two runners on in the second inning, two more in the fifth and sixth innings and one in the bottom of the seventh.

Allen and Chase led the offense with two hits each. Coming up with one hit each in the game were Belle Berg, Abby Nosbisch and Katie Ihrke. Allen had both the runs-batted-in.

Peyton Berg had the hot bat in the win over the Falcons. She was three for four at the plate with four RBI and three runs scored. Also coming up with multiple hits in the game were Belle Berg (2/4), Berge (2/3), Alanna Goetzinger (2/3) and Allen (2/3). One of Goetzinger’s hits was a solo home run in the fourth inning. She also had an RBI-double in the third inning. Both of Allen’s hits were doubles as she tied for the lead with four runs-batted-in. Berge also had a double in the four-inning contest.

Coming up with solo hits were McKenna Daniels, Nosbisch, Kielan LaPlante and Sloan Clemens. The ladies also reached base with five walks, one each for Belle Berg, Chase, Berge, Daniels and Allen. Chatfield didn’t have any strikeouts at the plate.

Other RBI were recorded by Chase, Berge, Daniels, Nosbisch and Clemens. Ten different Chatfield players scored in the game: Belle Berg (3), Chase, Berge (3), Peyton Berg (3), Goetzinger (2), Daniels (2), LaPlante, Ihrke, Clemens and Allen.

The gals were scheduled to start the week with a home game against Plainview-Elgin-Millville. Tuesday they traveled to Cotter. Thursday they will host Rushford-Peterson and Friday they are at Lewiston-Altura.

With the past poor weather conditions, the gals are going to have a lot of games in a very short time. The team will have a minimum of three games in each of the remaining weeks of the regular season.
