Lady Trojans close out regular season with a win

The Rushford-Peterson volleyball team ended their regular season with a 3-0 victory when they visited the Southland gym on Monday, Oct 15. The Lady Trojans jumped out to a decisive victory in the first set, downing the Rebels 25-12. Southland gathered some energy in the second, but R-P kept up the pressure with a 25-18 win. The Rebels tried to mount a comeback in the third set, but the Lady Trojans held on for a 25-21 victory to sweep the match.

Kaylee Ruberg led all R-P servers with four aces and three service points. Elly Malone and Lakyn Rasmussen were right behind Ruberg, with a pair of aces and three service points apiece. Hannah Ronnenberg contributed a single ace and a pair of service points. Senior standout Kaleah Davis zapped the Rebels for a dozen kills on 34 attempts, while Ruberg was credited for six kills on 21 attempts. Rasmussen chipped in three kills, while Elly Malone added a pair and Ronnenberg and Alora Wilkemeyer zipped the Rebels for a kill each.

On defense, Davis and Ruberg denied the Rebels with a block apiece. Alyvia Eide closed out her regular season total with 15 digs, while Malone hustled for eight digs. Isabelle Kahoun chipped in seven digs, while Ruberg and Rasmussen added six digs apiece. Also credited with digs were Ronnenberg (five), Hailey Jenkins (two) and Alayna Helgemoe (two).

Subsection play

The 17th-seeded Lady Trojans faced #16 Lanesboro on Monday, Oct 21, for the first round of the Section 1A tournament and won the match 3-2. They advanced to the second round of the playoffs and will face #1 seed Mabel-Canton at the M-C gym on Thursday, Oct. 24. We’ll have results of both games in next week’s issue.
