LARP boys cross country second at home invitational

Led by meet champion and the strongest team effort of the season, the Lewiston-Altura/Rushford-Peterson boy’s cross country team placed second at the Ole Olmstead Invitational last week. LARP packed three runners into the Top 10 finishers to narrowly miss toppling perennial power La Crescent. The meet, held at the Lewiston Country Club Oct. 4, featured 13 boy’s teams and 12 girl’s teams from the area.

LARP’s Luke O’Hare continued his winning ways, topping the 155-runner boy’s field as they navigated a hilly and challenging course. The sophomore finished the 5000 meter course in 17:10.4, five seconds ahead of runner-up Axel Daood from St. Charles. Aidan Ellinghuysen was LARP’s next finisher, placing fifth and covering the distance in 17:41.8. LARP freshman Tyler Rislov continued his streak of strong showings, placing 10th in 18:00.8. LARP’s next three runners placed within 16 seconds of each other and proved the power of pack running. Mitchell Ledebuhr was 22nd (18:32.9), sophomore Aleric Frick was 23rd (18:33.8) and junior Ricky Buchanan was 28th (18:48.8). Sophomore Brad Colbenson rounded out LARP’s top seven runners, finishing 47th (19:23.7).

Other LARP finishers included freshmen Andrew Hoiness (61st, 20:09.5) and  Andrew McNeill (115th, 22:28.5), senior Brendon Honken (125th, 23:33.6) and sophomore C.J. Lee (155th, 27:28.7).

La Crescent captured the team title with 55 points, just edging out the LARP squad (61 points). Byron was third (98) Stewartville fourth (110), and Pine Island fifth (122). Other teams included St. Charles (sixth, 123 points), Rochester Lourdes (seventh, 172), Chatfield (eighth, 214), Wabasha-Kellogg (ninth, 235), Dover-Eyota (10th, 250), GMLOS (11th 333), Kingsland (12th, 378) and LFC (13th, 385).

In the girl’s race, Grace Buchanan was the top LARP finisher, covering the 5000-meter course in 22:48.5 to place 32nd. Sophomore Hannah Linder was 40th (23:05.1), and Jenessa Larsen (66th, 25:08.1) rounded out the LARP varsity squad. Stewartville junior Kailee Malone was the meet medalist, outracing the 116-runner girl’s field to win in 19:47.6.

Stewartville also claimed the girl’s varsity team title, placing three runners in the top seven to score 45 points. Rochester Lourdes was second (69 points) Byron was third (104), La Crescent fourth (139) and Chatfield rounded out the top five teams with 141 points. LARP did not field a complete team.

Schedule

LARP runners will enjoy an entire week with no competition. Their next meet will be the Three Rivers Conference championship, held Tuesday, Oct. 16 at the Lewiston Country Club.
