The Lewiston-Altura/Rushford-Peterson boys and girls cross-country teams recently completed one of their best seasons, but they’re still enjoying success even though their schedule is complete. At their recent post-season banquet, LARP runners were awarded several honors by head coach Matt Kingsbury.

Seven members of the LARP squad achieved All-Conference status by placing in the top 21 runners at the Three Rivers Conference Meet. Three girls made the TRC All-Conference team; sophomore Hannah Linder and 7th graders Ellie Ekern and Lauren Honken. Four LARP boys were named All-Conference; Luke O’Hare (sophomore), Aidan Ellinghuysen (senior), Tyler Rislov (freshman) and Ricky Buchanan (junior).

In addition, O’Hare was the individual champion at both the conference and section meets. O’Hare and Ellinghuysen both advanced to the state meet, held this year at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. O’Hare placed 41st and Ellinghuysen 97th, and both runners notched personal best times for 5000 meters.

LARP runners proved their prowess in the classroom as well, with nine team members being named to the TRC Academic All-Conference team. To achieve this honor, athletes had to earn a varsity letter and achieve a 3.5 or better GPA for the fall academic quarter. Five LARP boys were named to the Academic All-Conference team; Buchanan and Rislov were joined by senior Brendon Honken, sophomore Brad Colbenson, and freshman Andrew Hoiness.

Four LARP girls achieved Academic All-Conference honors; freshman Grace Buchanan joined teammates Ekern, Honken and Linder on the prestigious team. At this writing, Lewiston-Altura had not compiled grades for the fall term, so only R-P runners had been named to the AAC team.

Kingsbury also awarded several team awards, which include:

Most valuable runner:  Ellie Ekern, Luke O’Hare; Most improved: Ricky Buchanan, Tyler Rislov; Rookie of the year: Lauren Honken, Andrew Hoiness; Coaches award: Hannah Linder, Aidan Ellinghuysen.
