Season recap

“We had a really good season,” said LARP coach Luke Rye. “I thought we played some good golf all spring. The first-year co-op with Lewiston-Altura really brought us some good golfers. We got a boost from kids like the Anderson twins (Zach and Jacob), as well as three other guys who were also on varsity last year too. From the Rushford-Peterson side, Andrew Hoiness, Mason Kelly, and Carter Lang just added to the boys’ experience level.

“We also brought in some experienced golfers from Lewiston-Altura on the girls’ side too. We couldn’t fill the girls’ team out the previous season, so it was nice to be able to run out a full girls’ squad this year after bringing in the kids from down the road.”

Rye said successful high school golf is all about numbers. “A good example of that is the boys’ team this spring,” he said. “If the guys wanted to play varsity meets this year, they had to go out and shoot low scores. The competition was very valuable for all them.”

LARP golfers spent a lot of time working on their short games, especially early in the season. “Our irons were incredibly important to us this spring,” Rye recalled. “We knew we had to putt well. We knew if the kids got inside of 100-150 yards, they need to get the ball on the green. The work really paid off as the short game did improve for our golfers this spring.”
