LARP golfers shoot well at Section 1AA Tournament By Chad Smith

The LARP boys’ and girls’ golfers took part in the Section 1AA Golf Meet on May 28 and May 30 in Cannon Falls. The girls finished fourth in the team standings, while the boys’ team took fifth place at the section meet. Red Wing swept the team championships in both divisions.

Each of the section champions will take their full teams on to the state golf meet. The five lowest-scoring individuals who aren’t on the section championship team also qualify for the Class AA State Golf Meet, which is set for June 11-12 at the Sand Creek Golf Course in Jordan. 

Girls’ results

Anna Hennessy finished tied for No. 11 on the girls’ individual leaderboard, shooting a two-day total of 178. Hennessy was just nine shots away from that fifth-and-final individual qualifying spot. Lexi Reps was 21st with a total score of 190 strokes. Lili Reps tied for 35th at 210, while Alexa Agin was right behind in 37th with a score of 214. Halle McElmury shot a 239 and Haley Krull finished with a 248.

Leah Herzog of Red Wing finished as the girls’ individual medalist, shooting a two-day score of 140 (4 under par).  

Boys’ results

Jacob Anderson of the LARP boys missed qualifying for the State Golf Meet by one stroke. He finished tied for seventh, one stroke behind the fifth-and-final individual qualifier (Cole Jannsen of Stewartville). Zach Anderson wound up tied for 13th on the final individual leaderboard. Jeremiah Hines tied at No. 18 while Andrew Hoiness wrapped up the team scoring, finishing in a tie for 33rd. Mason Kelly also took part in the second and final round, finishing 41st on the final individual leaderboard.

Cecil Belisle of section champion Red Wing was the boys’ individual medalist, who wound up shooting a phenomenal five-under-par over the 36-hole tournament.
