Screamin’ Eagles wrestlers flexed their muscle in a Dec. 20 triangular matchup that pitted them against Three Rivers Conference (TRC) foes Wabasha-Kellogg (W-K) and St. Charles. LARP grapplers emerged victorious, grabbing wins over both schools.

LARP vs. W-K

Though the Screamin’ Eagles got help from forfeits in five weight classes (106, 120, 138, 182, and 220), they still matched up well against the Falcons’ wrestlers and came away with a 45-30 win.

Carter Jonsgaard got things kick-started for LARP with a fall at 0:02 over Terrik Miller at 126 pounds. Gable Speltz followed his teammate’s victory with one of his own, besting W-K’s Nate Irish with a fall at 0:57 of the 132-pound match. LARP’s Dominic Jenkins made it three in a row when he scored an 11-8 decision over Tagen Miller at 145 pounds. W-K finally notched a win when Devin Beier managed a fall at 5:18 in his 152-pound contest with LARP’s Kolton Riser. Tanner Sanderson scored a fall at 2:21 of his 160-pound bout against LARP’s Jackson Koverman. W-K snagged its final non-forfeit points of the dual when Jon Frazier managed a fall at 1:00 over Jacob Meyer at 170 pounds.

LARP vs. St. Charles

It was a hotly-contested matchup when the Screamin’ Eagles went head-to-head with the Saints, but the LARP grapplers emerged with a 49-46 victory. The victory margin might have been greater, but St. Charles managed to prevail in forfeits 3-2.

Tyler Kreidermacher grabbed LARP’s first victory when scored a fall over Michael Jorgenson at 5:45 of the 106-pound match.  Ross Herber added an 11-1 major decision over the Saints’ Jett Thoreson at 120 pounds, and Carter Jonsgaard made it three in a row for LARP when he scored a fall over Tyler Mathison at 4:00 in the 126-pound match. Not to be outdone, Caleb Mueller grabbed another Screamin’ Eagle victory with a fall at 4:00 over Adrian Wilery at 138 pounds. The Saints finally got on track when Jersey Thoreson managed a fall over Kolton Riser at 2:25 of the 145-pound match. Connor Simon made it a Saints double when he notched a fall at 2:53 of his 160-pound bout with LARP’s Jackson Koverman. The Screamin’ Eagles’ Jacob Meyer answered with a 7-2 decision when he faced off with Gavin Boyum at 182. Logan Wendt scored a 10-1 decision over LARP’s Noah Herber at 195 pounds, but Carter Weideman answered by finishing off the Saints’ Riley Ferden with a fall at 0:58 in the 220-pound match.

The Screamin’ Eagles were in action at the Bi-State Classic tournament at the LaCrosse Center on Dec 28-29. We’ll have results of that tourney in the next issue of the Tri-County Record.
