The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District #297 was called to order at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 16, 2018 in the Media Center.

Board members present:

The Oath of Office was administered to new School Board Member, Jennifer Stender.

Motion by Christian Myrah, seconded by Thomas Trehus and carried unanimously to approve the agenda as presented and revised.

Motion by Brad Hernandez, seconded by Stephanie Jaster and carried unanimously to approve the minutes of the Regular School Board Meeting held on Monday, March 19, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Media Center. 

Motion by Stephanie Jaster, seconded by Brad Hernandez and carried unanimously to approve the Treasurer’s Report for April, including electronic transfers, as follows:

FISCAL

Motion by Christian Myrah, seconded by Stephanie Jaster and carried unanimously to approve Non-Certified Staff Wage increases of 1.3% for 2017-2018 and 2.7% increase for 2018-2019 school years. Also includes 403b Match increase to reflect what is in the SGEA Master Agreement.

PERSONNEL

Motion by Stephanie Jaster, seconded by Brad Hernandez and carried unanimously to approve the resignation of Morgan Ihde effective at the end of the 2017-2018 school year.

Member Thomas Trehus introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:

RESOLUTION PROPOSING TO PLACE

LINDSAY MACKIE

ON UNREQUESTED LEAVE OF ABSENCE

BE IT RESOLVED by the School Board of Independent School District No. 297, as follows:

1. That it is proposed that Lindsay Mackie, a teacher of said school district, be placed on unrequested leave of absence for .167 FTE of contract, and the subsequent .166 portion of the contract without pay effective at the end of the 2017-2018 school year on June 30, 2018 pursuant to M.S. 122A.40, subdivision 11.

2. That said proposed placement on unrequested leave of absence is not the result of the implementation of an education district agreement.

3. That written notice be sent to said teacher regarding the proposed placement on unrequested leave of absence for .166 FTE of contract as provided by law and said notice shall include a date for hearing if requested and be in substantially the following form:

Dear Mrs. Mackie:

You are herby notified that at the Regular meeting of the School Board of Independent School District No. 297 held on April 16, 2018, consideration was given to your placement on unrequested leave of absence for .167 FTE of your contract, and the subsequent .166 FTE portion of the contract to be without pay as a teacher of Independent School District No. 297. A resolution was adopted by a majority vote of the Board, proposing placement on unrequested leave of absence, as stated previously in this memo, effective at the end of the 2017-2018 school year on June 30, 2018, pursuant to Minnesota Statutes 122A.40, subdivision 11 upon the grounds described in said statute and specifically for lack of pupils and financial limitations.

Your proposed placement on unrequested leave of absence is not the result of the implementation of an education district agreement.

Under the provisions of the law, you are entitled to a hearing before the school board provided that you make a request in writing within fourteen days after receipt of this notice. If no hearing is requested within such period, it shall be deemed acquiescence by you to the school board’s proposed action.

4. That each and all of the foregoing grounds of said notice are within the grounds for unrequested leave placement as set forth in M.S. 122A.40, subdivision 11 and are herby adopted as fully as though separately set forth and resolved herein.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Member Christian Myrah and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof:

 

Trehus, Myrah, Stender, Hernandez, Jaster and Solum; and the following voted against the same: None; whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.

Motion by Stephanie Jaster, seconded by Thomas Trehus and carried unanimously to approve the resignation of Wes Kimball effective at the end of the 2017-2018 school year.

Motion by Stephanie Jaster, seconded by Brad Hernandez and carried unanimously to hold a Finance Committee Meeting on Monday, April 30, 2018 at 1 pm and a Technology Committee Meeting on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 8am.
