Letter: Keep Constitution intact for lasting peace

We are again talking about instituting new limits to our Second Amendment. We want peace, but we do not want the Prince of Peace, who is Jesus!

Every federal and state politician in elected office must take an oath to, ”protect and defend” our Constitution, as must others in certain non-elective positions. That oath of office has become only words. Almost every elected politician has become an enemy of our Constitution. They make up things about our Constitution like “separation of church and state.” How does "Congress shall make no laws ........" translate into, “Congress must take our Savior away from us  – ‘we, the people’ and force us instead to look to government for those things which only God Himself can do and give?”

Washington and state government have almost eliminated our First Amendment for Christians, Jews, conservatives and pro-lifers. Our elected representatives, in every party — Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Socialists, Libertarians,  etc. — will not be satisfied with the Second Amendment until there is no Second Amendment. They know the current limits to our constitutional guarantees will continue to fail, as will their new proposals to restrict our right to “keep and bear arms." They are intended to fail. Look to the states and cities with the most, and the most strict limits, to our constitutional Second Amendment guarantees; these are the very states and cities with the most, and most violent, crimes committed with guns. And look to government’s invitation to those intent on killing, informing criminals that there are “no guns in our schools," so come on in and start   shooting.

Why do the supporters of our Second Amendment rights (guarantees) fail to explain why this amendment exists? The other side has plenty of reasons for eliminating it!

The liberals have no intention of eliminating guns from criminals, but only from law-abiding citizens! They propose new laws they know will fail so they can revisit the issue again. And again.

Without Jesus, should government succeed in eliminating every single gun from every single non-federal employee, people will still continue to kill. (You do not believe our politicians plan to also give up their guns!) Criminals will just use knives, which some now are doing. They will use billy clubs, baseball bats, fists, various kinds of bombs, which some are now using, they will use poison, or automobiles, or maybe just throw people out of high rise buildings.

Our Constitution does not require Jesus be removed from our speech, or our memories. Government cannot replace God! Our Founding Fathers wrote and spoke often about our need for God, and their faith in, not some god out there - somewhere, but in Jesus Christ. Even our Declaration of Independence declares God, and our need for Him.

Have you noticed in our “Declaration of Independence,” the words “Life, Liberty and Happiness” are all capitalized? That is because our Founders, mostly Christian, looked to God for wisdom and guidance, and were unwilling to hide their faith. Life, Liberty and Happiness are each names of/for the God of the Christian Bible.

President Thomas Jefferson said, "No power over the freedom of religion is given to the United States by the Constitution.”

Regarding guns, and the right and the necessity to own them, he wrote,  "No free  man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." Again he wrote, “The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."

From President George Washington, "A free people ought not only be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government.”

Let us again, as a nation, seek the Prince of Peace.  Let us ”humble ourselves and pray and seek God's face, and tum from our wicked ways,” and if it is not too late; if He agrees to again reign over us, He will, "hear from Heaven our prayers, and forgive our sin and heal our land;" our Constitution, which came to us through the prayers of 55 of our Founding Fathers, intact, we will again live in peace.

How is your "Savior" being taken away from you by the government?  Give specific examples; "force us instead to look to government for those things which only God Himself can do and give" is not specific.
