LFCMC girls dominate discus at Vern Herman Invite

Lanesboro/Fillmore Central/Mabel-Canton took three of the top four places in discus and won both specialty co-ed relay races at the Vern Herman Invitational, hosted by Plainview-Elgin-Millville on April 23. In the eight-team standings, the LFCMC boys were fourth and the girls fifth. Host P-E-M swept both team titles.

Girls at P-E-M

Sydney Taylor was first (99 feet, 5 inches), Ashlyn Guenther second (97-09) and Emily Snyder fourth (92-06) with the discus while Taylor also had the second-best shot put (30-02) among 32 throwers.

Brielle Ruen and Emma Breitsprecher ran on the winning co-ed 4x200-meter relay.

Kammry Broadwater and Alida Berg made up half of the first-place co-ed 1600-meter sprint medley relay.

Broadwater, Ruen and Breitsprecher teamed up with Macayla Brogle to place third in the 4x400M relay.

First through eighth places earned team points

Breitsprecher also had a fourth-place high jump while Kelly Ristau was eighth and Saioa Legal ninth in a field of 16 jumpers.

Katelin Prinsen ran third and Katelyn Kleiboer seventh at 1600 meters.

Alison Freese was sixth and Ristau seventh in the 110-meter hurdles. Brogle ran eighth among 43 girls in the 200-meter dash.

Girls at La C-H

Kaylee Arndt had the only individual win at 1600 meters.

Ruen continued to excel as the runner-up among 20 sprinters at 400 meters. She ran fourth among 25 girls in the 100M dash and was also fourth among 21 long jumpers.

Breitsprecher was second in the 300M hurdles with an all-time top-10 time at this meet (48.21 seconds). In pole vault, she was third with Kassidy Broadwater fifth and Madison Simon eighth. Simon was also fourth and Halle Norby seventh at 800 meters.

Ristau was fourth in high jump and fifth in triple jump.

 Running third in the 4x400M relay were Prinsen, Macayla Brogle, Jersey Ristau and Morgan Pickett.

The 4x800 relay placed fourth with legs run by Prinsen, Kleiboer, Lauren Brogle and Adeline Miner.

Taylor was fifth and Guenther sixth in discus. Miner was sixth and Kleiboer seventh at 400 meters.

Boys at P-E-M

Josh Peters and Carson Kiehne ran on both the winning co-ed 4x200M relay and the first-place boys 4x400.

Drew Wyffels was on that 4x400 team and also along with Tyler Raaen on the winning co-ed sprint medley relay. Ben Snyder was another 4x400 winner and also placed fourth in long jump.

Connor Ruen was third in the 300M hurdles, fifth in discus and sixth in the 110M hurdles.

Jared Peterson was fourth at 400 meters while Joe Gathje was fourth in the 800.

Taking fourth in the 4x100M relay were Romario Gonzales, Greysen Higbe-Harrah, Ian Shupe and Hadrian Williams. Higbe-Harrah was also sixth in high jump. Jake Gathje placed seventh among 27 long jumpers.

Boys at La C-H

Carson Kiehne outran 22 competitors in the 400M dash (52.33 seconds). Raaen ran third at 1600 meters while Jake Gathje was fourth in the 800. JT Rein placed fourth in the 300M hurdles.

Higbe-Harrah was third in pole vault and tied for fifth in high jump. Snyder was fifth in long jump.

Ruen was fifth in discus and seventh in both hurdle events. Frank Ochtrup-Dekeyrel was fifth in triple jump and seventh in high jump.

Jayce Kiehne was sixth and Reid Crawford eighth among 20 runners at 1600 meters; Joe Gathje was sixth among 23 discus throwers.

Taking fifth place in the 4x800M relay were Jared Peterson, Ben Eversole, Nate Betz and Jake Gathje.
