Lion boys earn No. 2 sub-section seed

The Spring Grove boys (12-6) take the No. 2 seed into the Sub-section 1A East Tournament after closing the regular season with four straight wins.

Southland (7-12) received the top seed despite a current five-game losing streak. However, most of those losses came against Class AA competition, and the Rebels defeated Spring Grove 4-1 late in the season.

Southland has a first round bye while No. 2 Spring Grove hosts No. 7 Mabel-Canton (1-16) today (Wednesday, May 22) at 5 p.m.

No. 3 Rushford-Peterson (7-11-1) hosts No. 6 Houston (2-16) and No. 4 Schaeffer Academy (6-12) hosts No. 5 Wabasha-Kellogg (4-15).

First round losers are eliminated before a double-elimination format continues on Saturday, May 25, at Winona State University.

Southland will face the Schaeffer vs. W-K winner at 10 a.m. while the SG vs. M-C winner will take on the R-P vs. Houston winner at 12:30 p.m.

The winners of those two games will play each other at 3 p.m. for a the sub-section title and one of four berths in the section tournament.

Double elimination action resumes on Monday, May 27, at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. as the sub-section runner-up also advances to section along with the 1A West champion and runner-up.
