The Spring Grove trap shooters remain atop the conference standings despite being among several teams that did not score quite as well in week two as they had in the first week. The Lions’ first-week score (828.5) is still the best of the season for any conference member.

But the Lions now receive the strongest challenge from up-and-coming Albert Lea. Those Tigers posted the best team score last week (808.5) and hurdled two rivals from fourth place into second.

The Lions did have the second-best team score in week two (734) and slightly stretched their league lead. Spring Grove had held a 50.5-point lead over second-place Medford (after week one) and are now 90.5 points better than second-place Albert Lea.

Medford also did not perform as well in week two and dropped back into third place, just 10 points behind Albert Lea.

Camron Kraus, Ashlyn Hammel and Brandon Anderson led Lion scoring last week, each with a 47 (out of a perfect 50).

Marie Petersen hit 45 clay targets and Xander Lewis 44. Carson Gerard had a straight-25 round (25 for 25) and finished with 43 for the day as did Kyle Hagen.

Rounding out the team score were Tiffany Michels (40), Taylor Reinhardt (40), Jakob Myrah (35) and Marah Mathison (35).

Individual rankings

Anderson is tied for the best season average among conference boys (23.25) with Gerard fifth in the league (22.50).

Hammel has the best average of all the Lions (23.50) and ranks second among conference girls and also second among all shooters, boys or girls.

Petersen (23.25) is the third-ranked lady and Reinhardt sixth. Spring Grove claims six of the girls top 10 with Michels and Jacine Johanningmeier tied for seventh and Mathison tied for ninth.
