Mae Skindlov, 94, of Spring Grove

Mae Constance Skindlov, just days away from being 94, died peacefully April 28, 2018, at the Tweeten Care Center in Spring Grove.  

Mae Constance (Fritz) Refsdal Skindlov was born May 1924, in Albert Lea, MN, the daughter of Charles and Pauline (Pederson) Fritz, the fifth child born of eight children.  

She attended the Albert Lea schools and later moved to Hibbing, MN in 1940 to complete her senior year in high school. 

She graduated from Luther College in 1946. Mae taught school in Spring Grove; Cook, MN; Buhl, MN; Waukon, IA and Fargo, ND.  She was past-president of numerous church organizations.

She married Ansgar Refsdal in Cook, Minnesota in June 1947, and together they raised six children.  Mae was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother!  

She was the church organist for many years at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cook, MN. Ansgar died in 1978.  She later married The Rev. Allan Skindlov in May 1981 at First Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND.  Allan died in 2005.

Mae is survived by her sons Eric (Pat) Refsdal of North Ogden, UT; Larry Refsdal of Green River, WY; Keith (Kathy) Refsdal of Sandy, UT; and daughters Melanie (Mark) Anton of Minneapolis, MN and Dr. Cheryl (Eric) Bushnell of Winston-Salem, NC.  

She is also survived by Allan’s children, Jonathan Skindlov, of Tempe, AZ; Diane (Paul) Halvorson of Vining, MN and Elaine (Arvid) Sevald of Fertile, MN and her sisters Harriett Esse of Spring Grove; Nancy Christian of Fertile, MN and her brother John (Doris) Fritz of Mason City, Iowa. Mae is also survived by six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many other precious family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; sisters Sylvia and Margaret; brothers Paul and Eliel and her son Dean Refsdal.

Funeral services will be held May 5 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, with the Rev. Lane Zaffke officiating.

Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, May 5 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove and the funeral service will follow at noon. 

Following the service, there will be a luncheon in the church Fellowship Hall.  

The burial is scheduled for Monday, May 7 at 10 a.m. at the Oakland Cemetery in Waukon, Iowa.
