Mavis Skaar, 99, formerly of Spring Valley


Mavis Skaar

Mavis Lynne Skaar (nee Webster), 99, of Bellevue, Wash., and formerly of Spring Valley, died peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019, at Ana’s Assisted Living in Bellevue.

She was born on Oct. 26, 1919, in Canton to Ed and Cora Webster. They moved to Spring Valley in 1926 and she graduated from Spring Valley High School.

In 1940, she married Merlin (Happy) Skaar. Over the years, the couple welcomed six children.

She was the best cook and most gracious entertainer in the area. In 1974, she and her family moved to California where she had a great job in the business office of Universal Studios. She lived there until 2014 when she moved to Issaquah, Wash. She was an accomplished mother who loved her children and grandchildren dearly. She was active in the Congregational Church in Spring Valley and a most dedicated bridge player.

She is survived by five children, Michele Williams (Dick) of Sammamish, Wash., Scott Skaar of Rochester, Kim Skaar (Robyn) Chelan of Washington, Rick Skaar (Michelle) of Rochester and Tammy Hale (Steve) of Castaic, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Happy and her daughter, Candy Thorne (Bill) Castaic, California.

There will be a memorial service in California.
