Phillip Gordon Tufte, 64

Phillip Gordon Tufte, 64, of Mesick, Mich., died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019 at Medilodge of Traverse City, Mich.

He was born December 4, 1954 in Preston, Minn., the son of Gordon and Genette (Benson) Tufte.

Born and raised in Minnesota, a 1973 graduate of Rushford High School, Mesick was home to Phillip for the last 17 years. He was a veteran and served in the military for more than 10 years. Phillip was a kind and — as his best friend once said — “a pretty faithful” man (Love you, Jeff!) who loved his family dearly. He was also an animal lover. He and his brother, Matt, fed and cared for many over the years.

Phillip was optimistic and good-natured throughout his battle with pancreatic cancer, but eventually grew weary and left this world to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ. He wanted it known that he was a child of God, and he wanted to do God’s will. Phillip is loved and missed, but those who remember him take comfort in the knowledge that he is no longer in pain. “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain…” Revelation 21:4. Thank you, Lord.

Mourning the loss of Phillip are his wife of 25 years, Sheila; his granddaughter, Dawn; his sisters, Theresa (Jay) Swanstrom, Rochester, Minn., and MariAnne (Joash) Rugut, Richfield Minn.; his brothers; Steve (LeeAnn), Oskaloosa, Kan., Gordy (Rhonda), Dumont, Iowa, and Matthew, Grand Rapids, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.

Phillip was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Bitsy (Lenette); and his brother, Michael.
