OF THE SCHOOL BOARD

INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT #239

 

The regular meeting of the Rushford-Peterson School District #239 was called to order by Chairperson John Linder at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, October 15, 2018 at the Rushford-Peterson Schools Forum Room, 1000 Pine Meadows Lane, Rushford, MN 55971 & 1411 E. Rushmore, Brandon, SD 57005.

Members Present: Kathie Ingram, Joyce Iverson, Valarie Howe, John Linder, Dean Mierau (via Skype), Bonnie Prinsen and Jon Pettit

Members Absent: None

Student Member: Abbey Hoegh

Administration Present:  Superintendent Charles Ehler, Angela Shepard & Lisa Lawston

Activities Director: Dan Bieberdorf

District Office Personnel: Laura Hahn

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Moved by Prinsen seconded by Iverson to adopt the agenda with the following changes and addition: New Business item 6. Consent Agenda:  F. Personnel; ADD: 2. Resignation of Adam George – Assistant Wrestling Coach;

8. New Business: CHANGE – D. Reports to Authorize Superintendent Ehler to purchase a truck to replace the Ford Ranger that is no longer in service. (Purchase price not to exceed $15,000 before tax, title & license) Reports now become item E. Motion carried unanimously.

There were no public comments.

Moved by Iverson, seconded by Howe to approve the following consent agenda items: October 1, 2018 Special Meeting Minutes, September 17, 2018 Regular Monthly Meeting Minutes, September hand payables, wires & payroll liabilities in the amount of $276,819.92, September payroll in the amount of $260,251.22, October board bills in the amount of $315,113.55, Personnel: Hire of Abby Engler - Elementary Special Ed Paraprofessional, Resignation of Adam George – Assistant Wrestling Coach. Motion carried unanimously.

The board reviewed the Superintendent hiring services that MSBA provides. No action was taken at this time.

Moved by Iverson, seconded by Howe to amend the motion made on August 20, 2018 to set November 12, 2018 as the date for the special meeting to canvass the results of the November 6th School Board Election. Due to Veteran’s Day, the board cannot meet on Monday November 12th. The meeting will now be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13, 2018. Motion carried unanimously.

The board reviewed proposals for Snow Removal for the 18-19 school year from Atkinson Construction and Hammell Equipment.

Moved by Iverson, seconded by Prinsen to approve the lease of a skid steer from Hammell Equipment in the amount of $5,000 for snow removal for the 17-18 school year. Motion carried unanimously.

Moved by Prinsen, seconded by Iverson to approve the Notice of General Election for the upcoming School Board Election. Motion carried unanimously.

Moved by Iverson, seconded by Ingram to approve the Notice of Special Election for the Operating Referendum. Motion carried unanimously.

Moved by Howe, seconded by Prinsen to authorize Superintendent Ehler to purchase a truck to replace the Ford Ranger that is no longer in service. (Purchase price not to exceed $15,000 before tax, title & license.) Motion carried unanimously.

Superintendent Ehler presented the Superintendent’s report.

Lisa Lawston presented the Community Education report.

Angela Shepard presented the Elementary Principal’s report.

Superintendent Ehler presented the Middle School & High School Principal’s report.

Dan Bieberdorf presented the Activities Director’s report.

There was a brief discussion regarding possibly forming a Co-op with Lewiston-Altura for boys and girls golf.

Moved by Iverson, seconded by Howe to go into closed session at 6:30 p.m. to have a discussion regarding the litigation threatened by the Paleceks in regard to an easement on District Property and the potential sale of the middle school property.

Motion by Howe, seconded by Prinsen to adjourn the closed session at 7:11 p.m. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Iverson, seconded by Howe to re-open the regular meeting at 7:13 p.m. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Iverson, seconded by Mierau to give the potential buyer until November 5, 2018 to provide 10% earnest money down. Motion carried unanimously.

Moved by Pettit, seconded by Ingram, to adjourn the regular meeting at 7:14 p.m.  Motion carried unanimously.
