Richard Burtness, 86, of Spring Grove

Richard David Burtness, age 86 of Spring Grove, died Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Gundersen Lutheran Health Systems in La Crosse, Wis.

He was born April 25, 1932, at St. Paul. The son of Edwin and Julia (Sanness) Burtness, he was confirmed at Wilmington Lutheran Church, rural Caledonia. He attended the Wilmington Country School, and Spring Grove Public School.

On Aug. 16, 1952, he married Marlene Dahl at Mabel First Lutheran in Mabel.

He lived in the area all his life, and was a beef and crop farmer in Wilmington until his retirement. He also drove a truck for Wennes Trucking of Mabel, Thompson Grain of Spring Grove, and Minowa Construction, at various times in his life.

He was also a board member of Wilmington Lutheran Church and also of Four Square Coop.

He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Strike of Spring Grove and his grandchildren, Jason and Joel Strike of Spring Grove, and Jill (Jim) Britain of Caledonia, and his great-grandchildren, Kyle Sylling, Myia Strike, Jenna Britain, Julia Britain, and Jacob Britain; his sister-in-law, Arabelle Jorgenson, and also his special companion, Joan Sherburne.

In addition to his wife, Marlene, he was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Katherine (Ardys) Kelly, and a brother, Irving Jorgenson.

There will be a visitation from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove on Friday, July 27.

Memorial services for Richard will be private, and at a later date, with burial at Wilmington Lutheran Cemetery.
