Ronald Lane, 77, of Spring Grove

Ronald Sigurd Lane, age 77 of Spring Grove, and formerly of rural Decorah, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2017, at Gundersen Health Systems in La Crosse, Wis.

He was born on Nov. 20, 1941, to Leonard and Thelma (Overhaug) Lane. He was baptized and confirmed at Highland Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa.

He attended country school at the Kjome School. He later graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1961. He also attended Auctioneer’s School.

He was a lifelong member of Highland Lutheran Church, and served on the council, and also helped with janitorial duties at the church.

Ronald was a member of the United States Army Reserves for six years.

Ronald enjoyed working with horses, driving and riding them, and also part-time farming.

He worked for Winneshiek County for over 30 years grading roads and driving truck.

Ronald enjoyed fishing. When he was young, he would go fishing with his brother and sister after doing chores.

Survivors include his brother, Larry (Pauline) Lane of rural Decorah, and his sister, Arlys (Jerry) Markham of Wykoff; his nephews and niece, Christopher (Angie) Markham, Shawn (Becky) Markham, Ryan (Sydney) Markham, Chad (Chrystal) Lane and Caroline Lane and many great-nieces and nephews and several cousins. Also surviving is his aunt, Helen Melbostad of Spring Grove.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Highland Lutheran Church in rural Decorah.

Burial will be in the Highland Lutheran Cemetery.

The Rev. Kurt Bockoven will officiate.

Military Rites will be provided by American Legion Post# 249 of Spring Grove

Friends may call Saturday at the church from 12:30 p.m. until time of service.
