Runners hit course in Hayfield for second meet

The Kingsland cross-country teams were in Hayfield for their only meet of the week on Thursday, Sept. 5, at the Oaks Golf Club.

The Kingsland boys’ team finished eighth out of 10 complete teams while the Knights’ girls only brought three runners to the meet (five are needed to compete in team race). Pine Island won the boys’ team title (54 points) and Waterville-Elysian-Morristown/Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton took the girls’ title.

Boys’ varsity results

Freshman Garrison Hubka was the first Kingsland runner to cross the finish line, completing the 5,000-meter course in 20 minutes, 16.6 seconds, taking 24th place out of 113 runners. Nick Eickhoff was 34th with a time of 21:04.7. Josh Meskill was right on his heels, coming in 36th at 21:05.0. Sophomore Isaac Hauser finished the race in 22:53.6, while Noah Broadwater finished the team scoring with a time of 24:02.9. Nathan O’Connell (24:17.0) and Treyton Pokorney (27:06.1) also competed for Kingsland.

Samson Hagen of Plainview-Elgin-Millville was the boys’ individual medalist (17 minutes, 38.1 seconds).

Girls’ varsity results

Susie Mettler, who missed the first race of the season at Stewartville, had a great season debut by finishing 15th overall out of 89 total runners. Mettler, a sophomore, completed the race in 23 minutes, 43.9 seconds. Freshman Lily Freet finished the 5,000-meter run in 33:51.5, while Meredith Farlinger finished in 35:17.4.

Natasha Sortland of Zumbrota-Mazeppa/Kenyon-Wanamingo took the girls top individual honor, finishing in 18 minutes, 45.4 seconds.

JV boys’ results

Wesley Tin of Kingsland was the only Knight in the boys’ race, finishing the 5,000-meter run in 30 minutes, 44.1 seconds.

Junior high boys’ results

Eighth-grader Jayden Brink was the only Kingsland runner in the junior high 1.5-mile race, finishing in 10th place (42 runners) with a time of 10 minutes, 22.2 seconds.

Schedule

The Kingsland boys and girls were scheduled to head north to Byron for their next meet on Tuesday, Sept. 10. They’ll have several days of practice afterward, with their next meet on Thursday, Sept. 19, at Pine Island.
