Rushford Peterson Valley provides a beautiful landscape to host many wonderful events year after year, in particular the Rushford Days celebration and Grand Parade. In the parade this year will be the winner for the 2018 Rushford Days button design contest, R-P third grader Morgan Rye. Rye will be riding in the parade with proud mother, Tanya Rye. “I won some nice things,” Morgan said. “But my favorite thing will be riding in the parade.”

Morgan chose to sketch her depiction of Rushford’s Veteran’s Memorial at Creekside Park, colorfully done with green grass and a red, white and blue American Flag. Morgan said the drawing took her two days to finish, and stated that her great-grandfather, a WWII veteran, was her inspiration.

“I was very excited and very shocked,” Morgan said, when she was announced the contest winner. This was the first drawing contest she has entered and was proud to have won first place. Art is Morgan’s favorite subject in school under the guidance of Mrs. Cunningham.

There were around 50 entrants in the contest and the vote for Morgan’s submission was unanimous.

Rushford Days is July 16-July 22, and you can see Morgan along with a beautiful display of floats in the Grand Parade on July 21 at 7 p.m. Rushford Days buttons are available for $10 at Pam’s Corner and Rushford Foods.
