LARP wrestlers traveled west on Friday, Feb. 1, for a triangular meet with a pair of Bulldogs. While the Screamin’ Eagles narrowly dropped duals with Grand Meadow-Leroy-Ostrander-Southland (GMLOS) and Plainview-Elgin-Millville (PEM), they once again proved they match up well against area teams.

The Screamin’ Eagles had all they could handle as they faced off against the Bulldogs, a powerful Section 1A opponent. While the LARP squad got help from forfeits in three weight classes, GMLOS grabbed wins in nine contested matches to take the 48-30 victory.

The Bulldogs’ James Jacobsen started the action for GMLOS, notching a fall at 1:45 of his 106-pound match with Jordan Zibrowski. Teammate Cohen Wiste followed with a 15-0 win over Tyler Kreidermacher at 113, and Wes Soltau made it a trifecta for GMLOS when he scored a fall at 1:45 in the 120-pound match with Hunter Mart.

Carter Jonsgaard grabbed the first LARP victory of the day, making quick work of Corbin Ludemann by recording a fall at 0:57 of their 126-pound bout. The Bulldogs’ Donavon Felten answered, notching a 3-0 decision over Gable Speltz at 132, and teammate Daniel Smith added a fall at 2:34 when he tangled with LARP’s Kolton Riser in their 138-pound duel.

Though Dominic Jenkins won by forfeit at 145, the Bulldogs quickly made it another three-in-a-row. Rece Voight scored a fall at 0:50 of his 152-pound match with Tristyn Hegland, Christian Jacobson did the same with Jackson Koverman in a 0:40 fall at 160, and Noah Sayles won an 18-6 decision over Jacob Meyer at 170 pounds. Ethan Sense was LARP’s final victor of the day, scoring a fall at 3:42 of his 182-pound match with Isaiah Morse. The Bulldogs’ Clayton Luthe finished the GMLOS scoring for the day when he recorded a fall at 1:30 in his 285-pound bout with LARP’s Alex Perez.

The Screamin’ Eagles faced their second Bulldogs squad of the day when they went to the mat with the wrestlers from PEM. While the PEM wrestlers are in Class AA, they are a Three Rivers Conference foe, and a worthy one. Though PEM emerged with a 43-31 victory, the Bulldogs got help from forfeits in two weight classes. In contested matches, PEM held only a 7-6 advantage over the LARP squad.

The Screamin’ Eagles started with a pair of victories, thanks to Jordan Zibrowski, who scored a 9-1 major decision over Isaac Walch at 106, followed by Tyler Kreidermacher’s 6-5 decision over Jason Feils at 113 pounds. Garrett Olson got things going for PEM, scoring a fall at 0:53 of the 120-pound bout with Hunter Mart. LARP’s Carter Jonsgaard answered, finally scoring a fall at 5:07 of his matchup with Kael Lamb at 126 pounds. Cael Marx responded with an 11-0 major decision over Gable Speltz in their 132-pound match.

That got the ball rolling for PEM, which scored consecutive victories in the next three matches. Cooper Hofschulte scored a fall at 2:22 over Kolton Riser at 138, Joe Stucky grabbed an 8-6 decision over Dominic Jenkins at 145, and Carter Marx notched a fall at 2:27 of his bout with Tristyn Hegland at 152.

Then the Screamin’ Eagles got back on track, thanks to Jacob Meyer, who scored a fall at 4:19 of his match with Connor Jones at 160 pounds. Ethan Sense kept the LARP momentum going with a fall at 1:47 over Alex Rahman at 170, and Noah Herber recorded a fall at 2:24 of the 182-pound bout with PEM’s Martin Prieto. Following two LARP forfeits, PEM’s Logan Wingert triumphed over Alex Perez by scoring a fall at 0:35 of the heavyweight match at 285.

The Screamin’ Eagles are scheduled for a dual meet in La Crescent Tuesday, Feb. 5 and will have home meet vs. Dover-Eyota Thursday, Feb. 7. They’ll begin tournament action Feb. 14.
