Freshman Nathan Solberg scored both the tying and the winning goals in a come-from-behind 4-3 home soccer win against Coulee Region Christian, the first of three games during the final week of regular-season play for the Caledonia/Spring Grove/Houston soccer boys (4-10-1).

That Sept. 30 win was followed by another victory on Oct. 3 at Winona versus Cotter. The team was short-handed the next evening in a home loss against La Crescent-Hokah.

Section tournament

As this edition was going to press on Monday of this week, the boys hosted a third meeting with Cotter in the section tournament play-in game. The winner advanced and traveled the next day to No. 10 seed Cannon Falls (6-6-2).

That winner plays on Thursday, Oct. 10 at No. 7 Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa.

The Eagles had the wind while taking a 3-1 lead into halftime, but the Warriors rallied with the strong breeze in the second stanza.

Austin Meyer and Dominick Konkel put in the first two goals before Solberg tied it with a header and then added the winner.

A penalty kick from Austin Meyer gave the Warriors the lead before Gabe Morey added the insurance goal. The teams had tied 1-1 in a previous meeting.

The Warriors led 1-0 and then trailed 2-1 before tying it again at 2-all. The Lancers took the lead for good at 3-2 with a penalty kick just eight seconds before halftime.

Several key starters were unavailable on this make-up date due to prior commitments on a non-school day at Caledonia. Many last-minute younger reserves had to play different positions than usual.

Yet, it was a definite improvement over a previous 11-0 loss to the Lancers.
