In their first road game, the Caledonia/Spring Grove/Houston soccer girls were blanked 5-0at Winona Senior High on Aug. 27.

The first goal was a windblown 35-yard shot in the eighth minute. Ten minutes later, the score was doubled with a shot from the middle that found the side netting.

C/SG/H had a few good chances in the first half; Eliza Welscher had shot go wide by inches.

“We made a great adjustment after getting the ball down field for the midfielders to set up as shooters around the box,” said coach Chris Jandt.  “Junior Gabby Roble gave her a good pass to set up her shot.

“The second half came out as a battle right away with Caledonia putting pressure on Winona for the first 10 minutes.  We did a great job keeping the ball on their half and had a few good chances.  Winona came back hard and got a few good looks and put up three more goals in the second half.  “Overall, we played a great game holding on to the ball.  We are still adjusting to a new defense and new formation.  A couple of girls were unable to play due to injuries, so a few girls had to make adjustments on where they were playing. “

This week and next
