The Caledonia/Spring Grove/Houston girls dropped the soccer season opener 6-0 to visiting Stewartville last Saturday afternoon.

Madeline Foster saved 16 of the 22 Tiger shots on goal. The Warriors attempted eight shots.

"Girls played a great game and continued to progress throughout, making adjustments when needed," said coach Chris Jandt.  "We started out rough with four goals allowed in the first half.  At halftime, we talked about changes and needing to play team defense.  They adjusted well and fought in the second half of the game."

The final goal came in the final minute.

"We had a new formation and new defensive setup, so it will be rocky for a while."

The Tigers were 10-5 last year and this season were coming off a 2-1 home loss to South St. Paul.

After the Herald went to press, the Warriors played at Winona on Tuesday of this week before heading to Cannon Falls for a Saturday afternoon game before a Tuesday, Sept. 3 conference trip to Plainview-Elgin-Millville. They return home for a Sept. 5 contest with St. Charles/Lewiston-Altura.
