Freshman Claire Buttell tossed a one-hit shutout of Rushford-Peterson on May 8, sandwiched between a 15-12 non-conference shootout setback at Mabel-Canton on May 7 and a 7-1 road loss at Southland on May10. All three games were on the road.

Due to late-week rain, the Friday home double header with Fillmore Central/Lanesboro was postponed to Saturday morning, May 19.

The Warrior girls closed the week at 3-7 (3-5 TRC).

Mabel-Canton had two big innings, while the Warriors had only one. C/SG led 2-1 in the second inning when the Cougars scored five to take a 6-2 lead.

The Warriors came right back with five runs of their own to go back ahead 7-6.

After pulling even at 7-all, M-C took advantage of three C/SG errors during a big six-run fourth inning to make it 13-7. That fourth lead change would be the last.

After an injury sidelined M-C pitcher Harley McCabe, the Warriors would touch the reliever for two runs in the fifth and then three more in the sixth. But it would not be enough.

Adrianna Reinhart (2 for 5) drove in five runs for C/SG with a triple and single. Emma Buttell batted 2 for 4 while earning 4 RBIs.

Lydia Lange also had two hits while Grace Privet had an RBI-double.

M-C pounded out 12 hits, including two triples and two doubles.

M-C broke a 23-game losing streak to the Warriors. The last Cougar win in the series came with current M-C coach, Kati (Tweeten) Bergey, playing third base as a sophomore for SG/C in 2001. The teams had not played since C/SG changed conference membership in 2012.

Claire Buttell pitched the one-hit shutout to complete the season sweep of the Trojans (2-10, 0-9 TRC).

Reinhart (triple), Emma Buttell (double) and Lange (double) each batted 3 for 5 as the Warriors ripped off 18 base hits.

Two hits each came from Kerrigan Scanlan, Brooke Stemper, Anna Mauss and Katelyn Stemper.

The Warriors had defeated R-P 13-2 in the season opener.

After explosive 12 and 10-run outings, the girls crossed home plate only once against the Rebels.

Four of the six Warrior hits were doubles. A pair of two-baggers by Katelyn Stemper and Emma Buttell came as C/SG took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Cassie Heimer batted 2 of 2; Reinhart and Lange also hit doubles.

Southland (2-7) out-hit C/SG only 7 to 6, but pitcher Taylor Bhend walked only one and was backed by an error-free defense.
