The Chatfield softball team improved its 2019 record to 2-0 with an 8-1 non-conference win over Byron, the only game in a shortened week due to snow. The team is 1-0 in Three Rivers Conference play.

The game scheduled for April 4 against Plainview-Elgin-Millville has been moved to April 22, still in Chatfield.  Thursday’s game with St. Charles has been re-scheduled for May 6 (Monday) and Friday’s game with Southland will now be a double-header on May 14, at Chatfield.

The Lady Gophers scored three runs in the first inning on three hits, a walk and two Byron errors.  Chatfield scored another run in the second inning on a lead-off home run by Belle Berg.  Chatfield kept pressure on the Byron defense with two more runs in the third inning and one more each in the fifth and sixth innings.

Berg led the team with three hits in four at-bats.  She scored two runs and knocked in two runs.  Also having a multiple-hit game were Lexi Chase (2/4) and McKenna Daniels (2/4).  Chase added a run and an RBI and Daniels scored one and knocked in two.

Also getting hits were Teagan Allen, Peyton Berg, Katie Ihrke and Kim Greiner.  Scoring the runs, in addition to Belle Berg and Chase, were Carlie Berge, Peyton Berg (2), Daniels and Greiner.

McDaniels also had two runs-batted-in.

Chase pitched the first six innings and got the win.  She gave up two hits, one unearned run, three walks and stuck out 14.  Carlie Berge pitched the last inning.  She walked two and struck out two, with no hits and no runs.
