Track team has good showing at Hayfield

The Grand Meadow/LeRoy-Ostrander/Kingsland/Southland track teams were off to the Hayfield Invitational on Tuesday, April 9. The Bulldogs had a good showing at the eight-team meet as the girls tied with Pine Island for the team title, while the boys’ team finished fourth. The GMLOKS girls won five events while the boys finished first in one event.

Girls’ results

Team: 1. GMLOKS 113.5; 1. Pine Island 113.5; 3. Hayfield 87; 4. Medford 83.

The girls’ team had success in multiple events, starting with the sprints. Hailey Hindt won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.28 seconds, while Madison Hindt finished in third at 17.24. Hindt also won the 300-meter hurdles in 50.53. Kassidy Kirtz took first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.89 seconds. Anna Oehlke was third in 14.44.

Relays continue to be a strength for the Lady Bulldogs. GMLOKS won the girls’ 4x200-meter relay in one minute, 51.85 seconds, with a team of Ellie Buchholtz, Lauren Buchholtz, Madison Hindt and Anika Reiland. They also won the 4x100-meter relay in 51.64, with team members Lauren Buchholtz, Hailey Hindt, Kirtz and Reiland.

In the distance events, Aubrie Schneider won the 3200-meter run with a time of 14 minutes, 11.34 seconds.

GMLOKS took second place in the 4x800-meter relay in 11 minutes, 6.94 seconds, with the team members including Sydney Alstat, Shelby Beck, Maddy Bhend and Kendyl Queensland. The girls’ 4x800-meter relay team was third in 4:50.56 with team members including Beck, Ellie Buchholtz, Bhend and Alstat.

Alstat was fourth in the 1600-meter run in six minutes, 26.56 seconds. Oehlke was fourth in the 200-meter dash in 30.44 seconds.

GMLOKS took third and fourth in the long jump. Kirtz finished third at 15 feet, 1.5 inches. Lauren Buchholtz was right behind with a jump of 14-08.00. Jessica Grafe tied for fourth in the high jump at 4-04.00.

Boys results

Team: 1. Pine Island 198.5; 2. NRHEG 123; 3. Medford 92.5; 4. GMLOKS 81

Lucas Howard was the lone first-place finisher for the Bulldogs, winning the 400-meter dash in 54.69 seconds. Blake Ludemann was right behind him in second at 56.12.

The boys’ 4x400-meter relay finished second in three minutes, 47.02 seconds, with a team of Christian Hjelman, James Howard, Jacob Kerrins and Lucas Howard. The boys’ 4x200-meter relay was second in 1:40.82, with Hjelman, Ludemann, Kerrins and James Howard. The boys’ 4x800-meter relay was also second with a time of 9:22.52, including Hjelman, Brendan Kennedy, Kerrins and Lucas Howard. The 4x100-meter relay was third in 48.35, with team members including Luke Speer, Ludemann, Daniel Dahl and James Howard.

In the sprints, Luke Speer was fourth in the 100-meter dash at 12.27 seconds.

Matt Scaglione finished fourth in the 1600-meter run with a time of five minutes, 31.02 seconds.

Zach Hauser tied for fifth in the high jump at 5-04.00 inches. He also took fourth in the long jump at 17-10.50. John Hegge was third in the triple jump at 38-05.00.

Riley Paul took fourth in the shot put at 40-11.50. Noah Watson was third in the discus at 119-04.


The track teams are set to back in action at the Stewartville Invitational on Tuesday, April 16. They’ll have a second meet at Triton for another invitational on Thursday, April 18.
