Team awards

Most Valuable Player:  Ellie Buchholtz

“She’s an all-around outstanding volleyball player,” said Siskow. “She can set, she can pass, and she’s obviously a great hitter too. Ellie surpassed 1,000 set assists this season. We had her set for the first half of the season because she couldn’t hit due to a shoulder injury.

“You don’t see many girls that can play all around the whole floor,” she added.

Offensive Player of the Year: Ellie Buchholtz

“We’re going to be working with Ellie during the offseason to make her even more effective as a hitter,” Siskow said. “We’ve already talked about using the opponent’s block to get the kill. If she can put it off the sides of the hands trying to block her hits, that’ll make it harder to keep the ball off the floor.

“Defense will be a big focus of offseason work for our whole team. I think if Ellie puts the time in, she might tally up a whole lot of digs.”

Defensive Player of the Year: Audrey Webster

“Audrey stepped into and embraced her role this year,” Siskow said. “Her number of digs picked up noticeably as the season went along. While she always reads serves well, Audrey got better at moving her feet, which improved her back-row statistics. It began to click for her, especially later in the season, and she saw the results in her stats.”

Most Improved Player of the Year: Emily Miner

The sophomore middle hitter started the year on the JV team with a couple of spots still open on the varsity squad.

“She was an all-around player on the JV squad, and she impressed me with her ability to read the ball,” Siskow recalled. “Emily didn’t have the most powerful serve but it’s consistently over the net and in play, which is so important.

“She also had some great play at the net for us. Emily was a great blocker and can hit the ball well. We saw a lot of improvement in every aspect of her game.”

Knight Award (Team Player Award): Emily Biermann

“She’s amazing and I loved having her on my bench,” Siskow said. “She jumps up off the bench continually to cheer on her teammates. While she wasn’t always in the game, Emily was always happy to be a part of the team.

“I know she wanted more court time than she saw, but Emily was always cheering on her teammates and it didn’t matter which teammate it was. She’s a phenomenal teammate and I’d love to have her every year on my bench. She brought a lot of energy, especially when we needed it.”
