Wayne Jacobs, 93, of Caledonia

Wayne Walter Jacobs, age 93 of Caledonia, passed away Dec. 26, 2018 at Tweeten Lutheran Healthcare in Spring Grove.

He was born on June 22, 1925 to Walter and Esther (Menning) Jacobs in Primghar, Iowa. 

During high school he was captain of the football team for four years, he also played baseball and was on the student council, he graduated from Sanborn High School on May 18, 1942, at the age of sixteen.

Wayne reported for active duty in the United States Coast Guard in Feb. of 1943 at St. Augustine, Florida, he was seventeen years old. 

He remained in the Coast Guard for two years, during which time he was wounded with shrapnel in active duty, and received the Purple Heart.

When Wayne’s service time ended, he was hired by the Milwaukee Railroad on Oct. 1, 1946, Wayne worked for the railroad for 39 years, he worked his way up to Conductor, for the last ten years he worked on the “Meat Train”, that ran from Madison to Chicago.

On July 1, 1948 he married Deloris Ellingson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. They celebrated their seventieth wedding anniversary this year.

Survivors include his wife Deloris of Caledonia, and his two sons Jerry (Regina) of Ontario, Ca., and Rodney (Zenda) of Old Town, Idaho. Survivors also include ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters Winona Lockey, and Juanita McKay and one brother Freddy Jacobs.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 29 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Spring Grove.

Pastor Elizabeth Hermeier officiated.

Friends called Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the Roble Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
