The Caledonia/Spring Grove/Houston boys (2-9-1) dropped three soccer games last week before the regular season closes with three matchups this week.

At home on Sept. 24, the Warriors were shut out by St. Charles/Lewiston-Altura.

“We played pretty well overall,” said coach Dan McGonigle. “We were just outmanned as several players began to suffer injuries in a week full of injuries. We’re banged up, but we’ve got to learn to play through it.”

On Sept. 26 at Dover-Eyota, it was a scoreless stalemate at halftime before the Eagles netted four goals in the second half.

“I know our players can play with the teams we face; we just have to push and play to our 100 percent,” McGonigle said. “During the game, junior captain Nick Schmitz suffered an injury, which meant that Lyle Myhre and Nathan Solberg stepped up to play a lot of key minutes for the Warriors, and they answered with solid play,” said McGonigle.

At Pine Island on Sept. 28, Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa scored twice in the first minute. It was 4-0 before an Austin Meyer goal made it 4-1 at halftime. “We settled in and played much better once we relaxed,” said McGonigle.

In the second half, the Warriors would give up four more goals but would answer with a goal of their own late in the game off the foot of Gabe Morey.
