There have been some game sites moved, but weather and field conditions are finally ushering in spring sports games and meets this week. As this edition was going to press on Monday, there were baseball and softball games being played, a day before the first track meet.

The only Spring Grove team whose competition schedule began on time is the trap team, which entered week 1 of the 2018 spring season - also on Monday.

Baseball

At the press deadline, Spring Grove was hosting Mabel-Canton in the baseball season and conference opener for both teams. It is 18 days after they were originally scheduled to play the first game.

And the teams have switched home dates. With the diamond in Spring Grove ready for action, the Monday game was played in Spring Grove with the return matchup on Friday now slated for Mabel.

Weather appears promising for a full week of Lion baseball:

Monday: M-C at SG

Tuesday: Schaefer at SG

Thursday: GE/AC at SG

Friday: SG at M-C

After four SEC games, next week begins with a non-conference road trip to Rushford-Peterson on Monday, April 30, one day before a May Day bus ride to Glenville-Emmons/Alden-Conger.

Softball

As the Herald was headed for the printer, the Caledonia/Spring Grove girls (1-0) were back at their alternate home diamond in Brownsville, hosting Wabasha-Kellogg. The girls had several postponements, but in between snow events, did squeeze in a 13-2 home win at Brownsville over Rushford-Peterson.

The girls were also scheduled to host a double header with La Crescent-Hokah on Tuesday of this week with a visit from Grand Meadow/LeRoy-Ostrander/Kingsland (GMLOK) on Thursday April 26.

Track & field

Caledonia/Spring Grove was set to compete at the makeup meet at La Cross Logan yesterday (Tuesday) before a Friday, April 28 track meet at La Crescent. There are now two fewer track meets than originally scheduled, including the only home meet of 2018.
