Wrestlers beat FCLMC in dual, take second at Lake City tourney

Although the varsity wrestling team did well in a dual match with Fillmore Central/Lanesboro/Mabel-Canton and a tournament in Lake City, Chatfield has three ninth grade state participants — Gage Bartels, Kail Schott and Jackson Schild — who will participate Feb. 1 in the ninth grade state competition in Champlain Park.

For the varsity, Chatfield got a 66-9 win over FCLMC in a dual meet last week.  The Gophers came up with nine pins in the match.

As a team, Chatfield finished second in the Lake City tournament with 179 points.  Northfield won the tournament with 205 points.  Third place went to Lake City (170), followed by Medford (140), Dover-Eyota (127), Rochester Mayo (123), Winona (122.5), Westfield (68.5), Wabasha-Kellogg (49) and St. Charles (47).

Getting first place in their respective weight classes were Cael Bartels (113 lbs.) and Grady Schott (170 lbs.).  Seth Goetzinger (145 lbs.) and Campbell Berge (160 lbs.) took second and AJ Karver (220 lbs.) was third.  Others placing were Ryan House (106 lbs., fifth), Luke Carrier (120 lbs., fourth), Kail Schott (126 lbs., fifth), Tate Karver (138 lbs., fourth), Luke Ihrke (152 lbs., fourth), and Isaiah Froese (195 lbs., fourth).
