Wrestlers down FCLMC in dual, take fifth in tourney

The Chatfield Gophers benefited from five forfeits, totaling 30 points, on their way to a 63-12 win over Fillmore Central/Lanesboro/Mabel-Canton in Three Rivers Conference wrestling action. 

There were eight contested matches as Chatfield forfeited at 285 lbs.

106: Sulley  Ferguson, lost to Bradon Knutson, 9-2

The Gophers won forfeits at 113 (Cael Bartels), 160 (Jacob Stephas), 170 (Davontae Goldsmith), 182 (Mason Clemens), 195 (Grady Schott).  Chatfield forfeited at 285.

Tourney action

In the Mike Fasnacht Memorial Tournament, hosted by Waterville-Elysian-Morristown/Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, Chatfield finished fifth with 114.5 points.  Top four were Shakopee (229.5), Minneota (161), Dover-Eyota (124.5) and Farmington (117.5).  Behind the Gophers were Jackson County Central (106), Wabasha-Kellogg (73.5), Medford (62.5), WEM/JWP (29) and St. Clair/Mankato Loyola (27).

AJ Karver was the top finisher for the Gophers with a second place.  Cael Bartels, Seth Goetzinger and Jacob Stephas came home with bronze medals (third place).

Ninth grade at state

Grady Schott took first at 170 lbs. and Campbell Berge finished fourth at 160 lbs. in the Ninth Grade League State Tournament.  They also scored enough points to place Chatfield 11th out of 82 teams.
