“We are very proud of the way Cael (Bartels) and Seth (Goetzinger) competed at the state tournament,” said Chatfield head wrestling coach Travis Bartels. “Everyone is tough up there (at the state meet). Seth went 2-2 and lost by one point to get into the medal rounds.  Both of Seth’s losses were to solid seniors who both placed.  Cael wrestled tough throughout the tournament as well, going 4-2 and placing fifth.  He was the sixth seed in the tournament so we are always happy when wrestlers place above their seed.”

Both of the wrestlers won their first matches, guaranteeing them a chance for a minimum of three matches at the state level.

Following are the results for each wrestler in their state tournament run.

Cael Bartels, junior, 113 lbs, 4-2, fifth place, a final record of 34-10.  Beat Laredo Bugbee (Ottertail Central, junior, 25-9), major decision, 9-1; lost to Ayden Horner (ninth, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton/Westbrook-Walnut Grove, 47-4, third place, ranked third in state), 5-2 decision; beat Christian Carlson (sophomore, Frazee, 17-22), 15-2 major decision; beat Eric Carrasco (sophomore, Minneota, 33-9), 6-3 decision; lost to Zach Brown (, sophomore, Crookston, 39-3, fourth place, ranked second in state), 8-3 decision; beat Brady Holien (ninth, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City, 33-15, ranked eighth in state), 11-2 major decision.

Seth Goetzinger, sophomore, 126 lbs., 2-2, a final record of 29-9.  Beat Avery Augustson (Badger/Greenbush-Middle River, senior, 35-9), fall, 5:02; lost to Sam Kulseth (St. James, senior, 37-9, fifth place, ranked seventh in the state), 9-3 decision; beat Alec Johnson (sophomore, Kenyon-Wanamingo, 23-18), 10-0 major decision; lost to Wyatt Lahr (senior, Royalton/Upsala, 27-18, sixth place), 2-1 decision.
