A funnel cloud was spotted south of Spring Valley by policeman Brad Critz. The alert was sounded to all area residents as the cloud deposited tons of papers, business records, song sheets, school record and house roofing paper throughout the city. Most of the documents had Charles City printed on them.

Scoring heavily in the field events and winning all three relays, Spring Valley had little trouble cruising to its fourth consecutive Maple Leaf Conference track and field championship.

A total of 207 voters turned out for the Spring Valley and Wykoff School Board elections. Robert Grabau and Nordeen Groth were elected to the Spring Valley board, while Brian Hoff and Nancy Moore-Corson were elected to the Wykoff board.

Gerald Stockdale of Spring Valley was the recipient of the Friend of Youth Award given by the Youth Commission of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church to a member who has given time and effort to youth in the community.

The Spring Valley/Wykoff Athletic Booster Club presented a check for $5,000 to the Kingsland School District to be used toward the purchase of new uniforms in the Kingsland colors.

Kingsland tracksters set five school records and had champions in seven events during the subsection track meet in Rushford. Thirteen individuals advanced to the section meet by qualifying during the meet.

Three Kingsland golfers, Andrea Clement, Alex Broadwater and Corbin Carlson, advanced to the Section 1AA golf meet as a result of their performance in the sub-section tournament.

The Fillmore County Sheriff's Office is investigating a one-vehicle accident that took the life of rural LeRoy resident, Tyler Bunne, 20, who was the passenger in a vehicle that hit a tree on County Road 3.
