Young runners were the swiftest in the annual Ag Days 6k in Spring Valley Saturday, Aug. 17.

Treyton Lanning, 14, of Chatfield was the overall winner, finishing in a time of 23 minutes, 21 seconds, for the 3.73-mile course mostly on the Spring Valley trail. Sue Mettler, 14, was the women’s winner, finishing in 29:28.

The two will also be running cross-country soon, with Lanning running for Chatfield and Mettler competing with Kingsland.

A total of 56 runners signed up for the race this year, which was the lowest number since the race moved to the trail in 2013. However, the runners enjoyed near perfect running weather as the humidity wasn’t so oppressive this year.

There were quite a few young runners, including 9-year-old Jim Mettler and 10-year-olds Cody Howard and Paisley Kolling.
