There were 21 gymnasts as the Caledonia/Spring Grove/Houston team began workouts for the 2020 season, which opens this Saturday, Nov. 30 at a 10-team meet at Austin.

There are, however, only five letter winners - junior April Bauer, Spring Grove sophomore Brianna Johnson, freshmen Ayshia Gay and Cameryn Kruse plus eighth grader Braelyn Lange.

Johnson, Lange and Gay all have experience in all-around competition - performing in all four events (vault, floor exercise, uneven parallel bars and balance beam).

There will be no senior leadership; the roster is extremely young with no seniors, only 2 juniors, a lone sophomore, 6 freshmen, 8 eighth graders and 4 seventh graders.

Head coach Jackie Johnson is back for her 12th season and will be assisted for the third year by Helen Olson.

Vault has traditionally been the Warriors' best apparatus. Bars is a challenging event, especially for teams like C/SG/H, which practice at school instead of a gymnastics center with a pit.

After the meet at Austin, there is a home dual with Stewartville on Thursday, Dec. 5 before another multi-team meet at Byron on Saturday, Dec. 7.
