Zona Gail Herber, 86, of Eyota, died on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018, at her home with her family by her side.

She was born on Nov. 18, 1931, in Glenwood, Minn., to Irving and Melva Swenson.

She graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1949.

She moved to Rochester and worked at Saint Marys Hospital for three years.

On Jan. 19, 1952, she married William “Bill” Herber at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

She was a stay-at-home mother until her youngest went off to school. She worked at Family Services of Rochester until retirement in 1996. She received many accolades for her compassion and dedication from the families and staff that she worked with. She was a great cook and proud of her Norwegian heritage. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Bill; three children, Robyn (John) Hansmeier and Mike (Lynn) Herber, both of Rochester, and Brian (Rebecca) Herber of Lakeville; six grandchildren, Nate (Lisa) Hansmeier, Tracy (Thereasa) Hansmeier, Chad (Kasi) Herber, Jamie (Rob) Koehler and Andy and Brett Herber; eight great-grandchildren and a sister, Connie Koball of Spring Valley.

A funeral service was held on Monday, Nov. 19, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Loomis officiating. Interment was in Bear Creek Lutheran Cemetery in Grand Meadow.
